Robert Haynes, Sr. (Lansing)

Mr. Robert Earl Haynes, Sr. passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2021, in Lansing, Michigan. Age 57 years. He was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan, the son of Ruby Perkins and Henry Strong on December 17, 1963.

Robert was raised in Lansing, Michigan, and educated in the Lansing School District. He was a member of the 1981 Graduating Class of Everett High School. Robert was a great athlete and loved sports. He ran track and was an All-American track runner placing 8th in the nation in his event. He played football also at Everett High School. After high school, Robert was a basketball coach at Kingsley Center in Lansing; he even coached his own basketball team, “Haynes Hustlers”. He graduated from Douglas J Cosmetology School and obtained his cosmetology license. Robert worked at Genesis Hair Salon. He was also a DJ known as “Rob Base”. Robert was a giving business owner to the community. He was a comedian, loved going to casinos, and he gambled so much, he opened his own Happy Place. Robert especially loved his family to most.

He leaves to cherish his memory 9 children, Tasha Canty, Shemeika Barney, Janaye Haynes, Talaya Hill, Robert Haynes, Jr., Dontavius Reeves, Jamari Haynes, KeAndre Hayes, and Jalen Hayes; stepdaughter, Tyricea Briggs; grandchildren, Theresa Barney, Amelia Canty, Tahti Haynes, Caden Canty, Bentley Haynes, and Isabella Haynes; mother, Ruby Perkins; sisters, Brenda Robinson and Elizabeth Perkins; nieces, Lela Perkins and Shari Perkins; nephews, Raphiel White and Christopher Robinson; uncle, LV Campbell; 8 cousins, Jt, Tangie, Linda, Larnell, Larry, Gill, Dickie, and Emanuel; many other relatives and friends including special friends, Dorothy, Sheila, Cynthia, Shanquita, Yolanda, Tina, and Michondra.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Melba Canty, grandsons, Jaden Canty and Corey Canty; father, Henry Strong; and aunt, Pinky Lee Campbell.
