Robert L. Goodwin was born June 18, 1947 in St. Louis, Missouri to Beatrice L. Goodwin and N.L. Middleton. Robert moved to Saginaw with his family at the age of 8. He attended Saginaw Public Schools and graduated from Saginaw High, “Class of 1966.”
In July of 1964, while still in high school, Robert enlisted in the United States Navy. Upon graduation, Robert left for boot camp and spent the next eight years serving in the Navy and traveling the world. He returned home and enlisted in the Navy Reserve and went to work for General Motors where he retired from. Robert enjoyed his life to the fullest. He had a passion for race cars. His greatest joy was spending time with his granddaughters and family.
On August 11, 2018 Robert transitioned from his earthly home to his heavenly home at the age of 71. He joined his parents, Beatrice L. Goodwin and N.L. Middleton; brother, Elbert Middleton; sister, Dorothy Middleton who preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his life his only child, Wanda Dunlap; three granddaughters, De’Vine Dunlap, Devin’Nay Sisco, Mya Brown, Saginaw, Michigan; three sisters, Alberteen Minor, Daba Noldon-McBride, both of St. Louis, Missouri, Linda Goodwin, Laveen, Arizona; three brothers, Sammie (Beatrice) Middleton, Tommy Blake, both of St. Louis, Missouri, Benjamin (Flossie) Perry, Conyers, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, including special friends Cynthia Hall, Gregory Prince, Michael Hall, and special cousin, Danny Shivers.
Today we are here to say, the watch stands relieved. You, sailor, stand relieved. We have the watch. Fair winds and calm seas.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
