Robert James Meredith

August 5, 1944 — December 15, 2024

Saginaw

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert James Meredith, age 80, a devoted husband, beloved son, loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, cherished brother, and dear friend to many, on December 15, 2024. Robert was surrounded by the love of his family, who will forever honor his legacy of unwavering love, strength, and kindness.

Born on August 5, 1944, in Florence, Alabama, to Lizzie Mae Anderson and Percy Little and raised by the late stepfather Willie Anderson, Robert grew up with a deep appreciation for family, community, and the joys of life. He was passionate about bowling, shooting pool, and sharing his love for jazz and gospel music—interests that brought joy to both him and those around him.

On April 28, 1975, Robert married the love of his life, Sylvia George, forming a partnership rooted in love, faith, and laughter. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with cherished memories and shared experiences, raising three daughters: Sylvia Renee Williams of Dallas, Texas; Felicia (Dennis Sr.) Cotton; and Robin Lashon (Murray) Fentress, both of Saginaw, Michigan. A dedicated provider and protector, Robert ensured his family always felt secure, loved, and supported.

As a father, Robert was a steady and compassionate presence, offering wisdom, encouragement, and unconditional love. This devotion carried into his role as a grandfather, which brought him immeasurable joy. His grandchildren, Dennis Wayne Jr. “Lil Dee” (Bria) Cotton of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Deshonna (Pooh) Rene “Sweetcakes” Rasco; DeWayne Antè “Smiley” (Y’Vennia) Cotton; and Ciara Lashon “CeCe” Fentress of Saginaw, Michigan—will forever cherish his warm hugs, quick wit, and endless encouragement. His pride only grew as he became a great-grandfather, adoring Dominic, Karson, and Brooklyn Cotton, and Legend “LG” Gaddy with the same love and care.

Known for his straightforward wisdom, Robert was a trusted mentor and advisor to many. Famous for his “do’s and don’ts,” he provided thoughtful guidance to anyone who sought his counsel. Whether solving problems or sharing life lessons, he had a unique ability to blend humor, insight, and love, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Robert’s life was a testament to resilience, faith, and love. He graduated from Ruben Daniels Life Learning Center and was a proud member of New Life Baptist Church, where he faithfully served on the hospitality board under the leadership of Pastor Craig Tatum and the late Pastor Rufus Bradley.

Professionally, Robert retired from General Motors Corporation after more than 30 years of dedicated service. His work ethic, commitment, and reliability earned him the respect of his colleagues and peers.

Robert’s legacy of love and kindness lives on through his devoted wife of nearly 50 years, Sylvia Meredith; his mother, Lizzie Mae Anderson; his daughters; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sisters, Annie (Chris Sr.) Packard, of Saginaw, Michigan and Jeanette Anderson, of Dallas, Texas; his close brother in Christ, Donnie Kilgore; and a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Willie Anderson; his brother, Bobbie Meredith; his brothers-in-law, Pastor Rufus Bradley and James Fleming; and other beloved family members whose memories he held close to his heart.

Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing Robert’s love will forever live on in the lives he touched. His laughter, wisdom, and strength will continue to inspire and guide us.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Minoo Khetarpal, Ivan E. Phillips, and the Staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel for their compassionate care and support.
