Born on April 22, 1939 to the late Frederick Douglas Thrash and the late Mozelle Louise Young Thrash. Robert was a true example of a Christian man who loved his family and who worked hard to be a role model for others. Robert was the 2nd of 5 children born to the Thrash union where he was looked upon as a leader and admired greatly by his siblings. A native of Hogansville, Georgia, Robert grew up with a great appreciation of southern living and good cooking. In 1957, Robert graduated from West End High School and later attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, where he was a proud member of the graduating class of 1961. Upon completion of his undergraduate studies at Morehouse, Robert continued his academic journey and obtained a Masters degree in Social Work from Atlanta University in 1963 after completing an internship at Cook County Hospital. It was during this same year that Robert was commissioned to serve as 2nd Lt. in the Army Medical Service Corp. Demonstrating outstanding leadership and commitment to his work, Robert also served at Fort Sam in Houston Texas, Walter Reed Hospital in Washington D.C. and at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri where he attained the rank of captain.
Roberts career in Clinical Social Work began at the Bay Area Guidance Center in Bay City, Michigan where he served for many years. He was later employed by the Saginaw County Community Mental Health Authority in Saginaw, Michigan where after several years of service, he made a decision to retire and enjoy life with his family and friends.
Robert was wed to Barbara Roberson and from this union 2 beautiful children were born: Robert Wendell and Kimberley Donyale. Later he married the late Jacquelyn Thomas and from this union another beautiful daughter was born: Brandi Deann.
A member of the prestigious Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Robert was a great man who touched the lives of many. He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Kimberley Thrash and Brandi Phipps; two grandsons, Daniel Owen and Aaron Michael; two sisters, Sandra Pryor (Orlando) and Agatha Smith (Quenon); two brothers, Maurice (Sherole) and Douglas (Bernice) in addition to a host of other family members and friends who loved and will miss him dearly.
