Roberta Neal passed away on Friday, January 27, 2012 at St. Mary's of Michigan Medical Center. Age 71 years. Roberta graduated from Lincoln High School in Forrest City, Arkansas in 1958 where she played varsity basketball. She spent her formative years in Forrest City before moving to St. Louis, Missouri where she began her career in the healthcare industry. After a few years in St. Louis she relocated to Brooklyn, New York where she began the start of her family before eventually residing in Saginaw, Michigan. Roberta retired after 20 years as a nursing assistant for Saginaw General Hospital.
Known affectionately to home-town friends as "Redd" and to co-workers as "Neal", Roberta enjoyed reading, playing bingo and going to casinos.
She leaves to cherish her memory one son, James Neal of Grand Rapids, Michigan; five daughters, Deirdre (Darrin) Cuffie of Tustin, California, Cyd Neal and Donna (Cecil) Rivera, both of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Dannielle (Larry) Monroe of Saginaw, Michigan, Cheryl (Ralph) McKenzie of Rancho Santa Margarita, California; two brothers, Lloyd McAllister of Columbus, Georgia, Melvin (Isabella) McAllister of Little Rock, Arkansas; one sister, Mae ORita Whaley of Dayton, Ohio; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends, including special friends Minnie Hope, Velvia Monroe, Beatrice Sanchez, and Kathy Watkins.
Roberta was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Roberta McAllister; brothers Robert McAllister Jr. and Clinton McAllister; sisters Bernice Williams, Barbara Simpson, and Lula Pearl Torrence; and daughter Crystal Neal-Simpson.
