Robin Earl Mckinney, Ph.D.

Dr. Robin Earl McKinney passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at his residence in Saginaw, Michigan. Age 59 years. He was born on September 7, 1962 in Saginaw, Michigan to John Quarles, Sr., and Carrie Lee McKinney.

Dr. McKinney was a resident of Saginaw, Michigan. He attended Saginaw Public Schools and was an honors graduate from Arthur Hill High School, Class of 1980. Robin continued to excel academically obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree from Central Michigan University, 1994, Master of Social Work, University of Michigan, 1989, Master’s, Western Michigan University, 2010, and a Ph.D., from Michigan State University, 1996. Dr. McKinney served as an Associate Professor at Western Michigan University for 20 years, retiring in 2013. His hobbies included traveling, watching Sci-Fi movies, and music. Robin loved the arts and was trained and demonstrated his prowess as a gifted classical pianist since the age of 12 years. Robin’s musical abilities can best be described as par excellence! Robin was referred to affectionately as “Uncle Rob” by his nieces and nephews. They will treasure the Sci-Fi movie marathons and the weekend game systems battles forever! The entire family will miss the fabulous annual 4th of July celebrations in the backyard. Robin was an amazing person who will be sorely missed by family, friends, and his favorite cat, Penelope.

Robin was the proprietor of McKinney Counseling Services in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan where he fulfilled his goals of becoming a business owner and working as a Clinical Psychologist.

Dr. McKinney leaves to cherish loving memories his husband, Martin William Grandmason; two sons, Matthew (Gina) Grandmason of Busan, Korea, and Matthew McKinney, Saginaw, Michigan; grandson, Samuel Grandmason, Busan, Korea; siblings, Yvonne and Denise McKinney, Saginaw, Michigan, Helen (Ben) McKinney-Gorham, College Park, Georgia, Dr. Liska McKinney Andu, Woodstock, Georgia, Wanda (Lawrence) Hughes, Troy, Missouri, Felicia (Calvin) Harris and Tracy (Keith) Jones, Clarksville, Tennessee; brothers, John Quarles, Jr., Clarksville, Tennessee, Lesley Quarles, Bruce (Pam) McKinney, Reginald McKinney, Regimond (Shender) McKinney, all of Saginaw, Michigan, Gregory (Tracey) McKinney, Canton, Michigan, and Anthony McKinney, Houston, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Quarles, Sr. and Carrie Lee Collins McKinney, oldest brother, Dwight McKinney, Jr., sisters, Karen and Sharon McKinney, Joyce Beasley, and Donna Quarles.
