Roosevelt Hanks went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 15, 2013 at the age of 61. Roosevelt was born on November 20, 1951 in Cleveland, Ohio to JC Hanks and Marcella Faulkner. Roosevelt grew up in Lansing, Michigan, graduated from Everett High School and attended Michigan State University. He served in the US Army. Roosevelt was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church and participated in the bowling league, usher board and the mens chorus. Roosevelt worked for the Board of Water & Light for over twenty years before he retired. He enjoyed spending time with family, especially his new grand baby, watching sports and playing golf. Roosevelt was the friendliest person you could meet and would have a conversation with just about anyone, he gave great advice and loved to laugh and make others laugh.He leaves to cherish his memory daughter Roslyn Hanks, Lansing, Michigan; one stepson, Derrick (Nikkeya) Knox, Lansing, Michigan; one granddaughter, Aubrielle Lewis; mother, Marcella Faulkner; sister, Addie Hanks; three brothers Erle Swanson, Joell and Plymouth Hanks; three nieces, India Hanks, Sarah Gayle Galbreath, and A.E. Nyeema Swanson; one nephew, Joell Hanks, Jr.; two aunts, Elizabeth McClan, Lansing, Michigan and Mary Walker, Las Vegas, Nevada; many cousins, special cousins Duane McClain, Heather McLeod, Petey Smith, Wayne Smith, Martha Mae Smith, Anna Lee Smith, Vernadine Smith; and other family and friends that meant so much to him.He was preceded in death by nephew, Asheber Swanson; sister in law, Gail Swanson; uncle Walter Greener; Stepfather Theodore Faulkner and aunt Mary Smith. The family would like to express special thanks to everyone who has helped Roosevelt over the years, friends and colleagues and everyone who has prayed, called or came to see the family during this great loss.
