Roosevelt Jr. 'Tom' Washington

April 21, 1943 — April 17, 2016

Mr. Roosevelt Washington, Jr., affectionately known as Tom passed away Sunday, April 17, 2016 at Covenant Healthcare-Cooper at the age of 72 years. He was born April 21, 1943 in Panola, Alabama to Roosevelt and Leodis Washington.
Roosevelt attended North Sumter High School in Panola, Alabama. He married Clara on July 6, 1963. Together, they shared fifty-two years of marriage. After marrying his sweetheart, they moved to Boston, Massachusetts. Shortly thereafter, Roosevelt took a job at Saginaw Grey Iron Foundry, working twenty-five years until he retired in 1989. He was a member of UAW Local 668. Roosevelt was a long-time member of St. Paul Baptist Church under current leadership of Reverend Dr. Vincent D. McMillon. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, playing baseball, watching Family Feud, The Price is Right, Lets Make a Deal, western movies, and playing checkers with his grandchildren. Most of all, Roosevelt enjoyed family gatherings of which the Labor Day 2015 gathering was most special.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Clara Mae Washington; two daughters and one son, Janice (Clifford) Murray, Jacqueline Washington and Jeffrey Washington, all of Grand Rapids, Michigan; grandchildren, Arrington, Kiara, Marquita, Verneshiea, Kiona, Kendall, Shakira, Tiffany and Terrence; great-granddaughter, Journey; mother, Leodis Washington; sisters, Lillie Adkins, Laura (Oliver) Quarles, Jr., of Saginaw, Michigan, Lueada (Arthur) Rodgers of Greensboro, South Carolina, Betty (Augusta) Stanton of Chicago, Illinois, Sadie (Melvin) Washington of Highpoint, North Carolina; a special niece, Ashley Carter.
Mr. Washington was preceded in death by his father, Roosevelt Washington, Sr., brothers, Willie James Washington and Bobbie Lee Washington.
The family would like to express special thanks to the doctors and staff at Covenant Healthcare ICU.
