Roosevelt moved to Saginaw, Michigan in 1968. He was employed at Saginaw Malleable Iron Plant for 26 years and was a member of UAW Local 455 before retiring in 1994. He married Shirley Stakley on April 10, 1981 and together they enjoyed 31 years of matrimony. In 2001 they relocated to Detroit, Michigan. Roosevelt loved being around his family. After his retirement, he enjoyed watching episodes of Gunsmoke and doing chores around house. He knew all of his grandchildren names and enjoyed them every time they came to visit. He will be truly missed by his wife and family.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Shirley A. Terry; six stepchildren, Debra Wilson, Roxanne Thompson, Rex Bridgewater, Cheryl (Bertram) Cole, Sharon Bridgewater, Troy (Larissa) Bridgewater; one son-in-law, Charlie Thompson; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Lottie Mae (Robert) Bailey; one niece, Bridgette Bailey; four brothers-in-law, Narvol Stakley, Timothy Evans, Walter Curley and Robert Bailey; many other relatives and friends including a special 1st grandson, Anthony Murphy who was very close to his grandpa. He took him for haircuts every three weeks and enjoyed his special conversations with him.
Roosevelt was preceded in death by one step-son, Eric Bridgewater, one sister, Bessie Thompson, one brother, Wilburn Thompson.
The family would like to express special thanks to everyone who showed their support by offering prayers, condolences and encouraging words.
