Rosalyn Jones (Lansing)

Our beloved Rosalyn Jones departed this world for Heaven on Sunday, December 25, 2016 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan. Age 57 years. She was born on July 15, 1959 in Detroit, Michigan to Vivian Ann Vandegrift. She was later adopted by DeLee Grimes, Sr.

Rosalyn attended Cass Technical High School. She continued her education at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan earning a bachelors of science in public administration and a masters of business administration in marketing. Rosalyn was a member of Family Worship Center Church. A bible scholar and teacher, Rosalyn attended Mt. Hope Bible Training Institute. Rosalyn was later ordained as a minister on November 16, 2014.

Rosalyn was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and known for connecting people. Her council and wisdom was often requested to help diffuse situations and provide solutions. So much so that she was named the Reasonableness Coordinator, in one of her positions, as she was always considered fair and reasonable in her approach.

She loved being in the water or taking long walks and praying. Most importantly, she loved children, studying God's word, and worshipping God through dance. She was trained in ballet, African and modern dance. Affectionately known as T-Roz, Rosalyn served as a youth mentor/advocate, youth director and youth pastor at several churches in the Lansing community throughout her lifetime.

Rosalyn enjoyed statistics, traveling, art, ethnic food and working in her yard. Her favorite place to visit was the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.

After 35 years of service, Rosalyn retired from the State of Michigan in November 2015. She worked in many capacities and most recently took pride in consulting with the City of Albion.

Rosalyn leaves to cherish her memory: a precious son, Xavier; father, DeLee; three sisters, Samira, Mia and Nikia; three brothers, James (Princess), Sammie, Jr. and Dennis; seven nephews, Antonio, Vonantio, Jeremy, James Mackenzie, Blake, Jackson and Sammie, III; eight nieces, Mionta, Yuri, Emoni, Diamond, Destinee, Danielle, Miah and Leah; five very special friends, Stephanie O'Steen, Lenore Costa, Shalonda Garza, Melissa Hall and Bobby Jones; four Godchildren, Diamond, Priye, Dominic and Chanae; and a host of family and friends who love and will miss her tremendously.

She was preceded in death by her mother Vivian and two sisters, Delvon and Heather.
