Rose Etta Carter (Lansing)

Mrs. Rose Etta Carter departed this life and entered eternal rest on Saturday, January 4, 2025, in Lansing, Michigan at the age of 96 years old. She was born Friday, August 10, 1928, to the late Annie Mae and Willie Powe, in Camden Alabama.

In 1968, she moved to Lansing, Michigan. In 1971, she joined and became a faithful member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Reverend Joseph E Graves, Sr. After his passing in 1994, she continued her spiritual walk at the new Mt. Zion All Nations Bible Church, until her health failed her.

All her life, she enjoyed cooking and baking. She used to make the best home-made ice cream and German chocolate cakes from scratch. She enjoyed cooking so much that she was employed as a cook at the Community Nursery School until she retired in 2000. After retiring, she continued to enjoy her passion for cooking by doing so for family and friends. Her favorite holiday was Thanksgiving as it gave her reason to do what she enjoyed best, plus spend time with family. She also was a foster mom. During her fostering years, she fostered over 25 children, providing them a nice, safe home until they were able to return to their families.

To cherish her fondest memories, she leaves her children, Pearl, John, and Evelyn Carter, all of Lansing, Michigan; Michael (Kriss) Carter of Onondaga, Michigan; Mary Finklea of Atmore, Alabama; and Tiffany Allen of Murrieta, California; 21 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, 28 great-great grandchildren; special daughters, Leona Thabit and Ardell Bradley, and many other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her husband, DeNorth Carter; children, Annie “Baby Sister” Young, Albert, Dorothy Mae, and Willie DeNorth Carter, Clara Mae Bell;  grandchildren, Theresa Grimes-Baum, Sarerene Williams and John Nolan, Jr.; great grandchildren, Kalayiah Bell and Hailey Bell; and her parents.
