Rosevelt Moore

June 8, 1949 — June 16, 2024

Saginaw

Mr. Rosevelt Moore AKA “Big Pete” “Unc,” passed away Sunday, June 16, 2024. Rosevelt was born on June 8, 1949, in Goodman, Mississippi, to Robert Sr. and Katie Mae Moore.

Rosevelt accepted our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at an early age. He was a member of Greater Progressive Baptist Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and served on the Usher Board. He attended the Waterloo Public Schools and graduated from East Waterloo High School, Class of 1967. He retired in 1999 after 30 years of service from General Motors Chevrolet Grey Iron Foundry in Saginaw, Michigan where he was a member of UAW Local 668.

After retirement, Rosevelt relocated to Fort Wayne Indiana, and found his dream retirement job at several golf courses including McMillan Park, and Foster Park. Rosevelt had a passion for golf and played the game since he was a teenager. A major accomplishment for Rosevelt was hitting two holes-in-one during his golfing career, one in Michigan and one in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He also had a part-time job working for Pizza Hut, which was sometimes a challenge. He threatened to quit many times but because of his personality and love for people, he always returned.

Rosevelt was not shy and always said what was on his mind and then some. He never met a stranger and had love for everyone he met. He took many cross-country golf trips with his family and friends, including Frederick Moore, Walter Wyatt, Jeorge Logan, and Sam Jones. Hitting golf balls through rain, sleet, or shine was never a problem.

Rosevelt leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Ebony Russell; one son, Dameon Russell; one granddaughter, Jasmine Davis, all of Atlanta, Georgia; five sisters, Bonnye VanGenuchten, Moreno Valley, California, Vernita (Tad) Alterkruse, Coldstrip, Montana, Rosemary (David) Wells, Madison, Alabama, Linda Payne, and Dorothy Hutchins, both of Waterloo Iowa; brothers, John (Florine) Moore, Waterloo, Iowa, Hugh Moore, Freddie (Lillie) Moore, and Reverend Robert Moore Jr., all of Saginaw Michigan; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Rosevelt was preceded in death by his son, Anthony Moore; four sisters, Lola Moore, Thelma Smith, Lennie Ross-Moon, and Annie Bell; two brothers, Herbert, and Harvey Moore.

The family would like to express special thanks to Ivan E. Phillips and Staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel.
