Our beloved mother, Rosie B. Johnson, daughter of John and Lillie Bell Booker, was born June 8, 1923 in Grenada, Mississippi. She departed this life on August 1, 2020 at her residence with her family by her side.
As a child, Rosie loved flowers and allowed her passion to flourish at her home in the form of a beautiful flower garden and the nourishment of many plants. In addition to gardening, some of her interests included wearing jewelry from her beautiful collection and listening to Gospel music, specifically from her favorite artist Mahalia Jackson.
Rosie married Earl B. Johnson, Sr. in 1945 and they shared 67 years together. The two were members of Bethel AME church. Rosie was a woman of faith and read her Bible often. She retired from Vlasic Pickle Factory. A marvelous cook, Rosie enjoyed preparing dinners for family. Some of her specialties included turkey and dressing, homemade rolls, and extraordinary bean pies. As someone who valued family, she had a special bond with her two sisters, Annie and Sue, whom she often talked with on the phone. Rosie lived a full life and is well-loved. Her memory lives on.
Rosie was preceded in death by her husband, Earl B. Johnson, Sr.; one son, Earl B. Johnson Jr.; parents, John and Lillie Bell Booker; sisters, Verna Marie Weeks, Annie Mae Parker; brothers, Sell, Raymond and Willie James Booker; and one granddaughter, Shirletha Thompson.
