Pastor Roy Cannon entered his Heavenly Rest on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at Sparrow Health Systems in Lansing, Michigan at the age of 81 years old. He was born on July 17, 1941, the son of Leroy Cannon and Nezzie Bernette in Foley, Florida.
Roy moved from Florida to Ecorse, Michigan and eventually settled in Detroit, Michigan. He graduated from Southwestern High School in Detroit on June 24, 1960. Roy served in the United States Army from December 1963 through December 1965 when he was honorably discharged. He was employed by Pepsi Company as a security officer, then he worked for General Motors Corporation where he retired from. On October 25, 1975, Roy married the love of his life, Shirley A. Sparkman. He was called to pastor in 1984. He served with his wife for 10 years as the Pastor of Wind of Fire International Ministries. Roy enjoyed watching cowboy TV shows, karate, crossword puzzles, sweets, and baseball. He also loved to spend time with his family especially his granddaughter, Inan’ Powell and grandson, Jaylen Sparkman. Roy was a kind-hearted, gentle man and will be missed by many.
Roy leaves to cherish is loving memories, his loving wife, Shirley A. Cannon; daughter, Tacarra Cannon; son, James Sparkman; grandchildren, James Sparkman, Maneesha Finkle, Dwayne McKinney, Devonte Brombill, Jaylen Sparkman of Detroit, Michigan, and Inan’ Powell of Kalamazoo, Michigan; sisters, Celestin Cannon Dukes and Yvonne Cannon Parham; brothers, Carl Cannon and Derrick Cannon; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Urmedean Sibert, Geraldine Simmons and Patricia George.
