Roy Chester Sullivan

March 17, 1949 — February 29, 2016

Mr. Roy C. Sullivan, beloved father, grandfather, brother and uncle went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 29, 2016 at his residence. Age 66 years. Roy Chester Sullivan was born March 17, 1949 in Frenchman's Bayou, Arkansas to Chester and Dora Lee Sullivan.

Roy attended J.M. Speck School in Frenchman's Bayou, Arkansas and in 1968 graduated from Hayti High School in Hayti, Missouri. In 1968, he relocated to Saginaw, Michigan. Roy was employed by Saginaw Combustion Engineering for many years as a welder. While living in Hayti he worked as a welder at Colson Company and on the farm with his father. He also worked at Saginaw Powder Coating in the Maintenance Department until it closed. Roy enjoyed working on cars and could fix anything. He loved children, had a heart of gold and would help anyone that he could. Roy would always say "If it ain't blue, then it ain't true." He was lovingly known as "Uncle Roy" to all who came in contact with him. Roy's favorite word of goodbye was "Ve Con Dios" which means "Go with God" in Spanish. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.


Roy leaves to cherish his memory his companion of many years and caregiver, Mary A. Carter of Saginaw, Michigan; six daughters, Satrina Tate, Hendersonville, Tennessee, Cassandra (Macio) Singletary, Cleveland, Ohio, Tacara Sullivan, Celustia and Benita Barringer all of Hayti, Missouri, Deborah Brown, New York; five sons, James (Meshawn) Harrison, LeClaire, Iowa, Demetrius A. Sullivan, Cortez and Jeremiah Barringer all of Hayti, Missouri, Roy Barringer, Kansas City, Missouri; four step-children, John, Brian, Steven Carter and Jataun Bryant; twelve grandchildren; two sisters, Geraldine (Lawrence II) Russell, Saginaw, Michigan, Jacqueline Sullivan, Hayti, Missouri; two brothers, Franklin D. Sullivan, Cardova, Tennessee, MacArthur (Nancy) Sullivan, Louisville, Kentucky; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends including special friends, Ronald Samuel, Edward Harrison, Eric Williams and Raymond Edwards.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Dora Lee Sullivan, one brother, Jackie Leon Sullivan, two sisters, Shirley Ann Reel and Allean Sullivan Fisher.

The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Asma Taj, Dr. Kim, Dr. Laynes, his sister, Geraldine Russell who was always there for Roy and a special cousin, Vickie Pearce. God bless you all!
