Mr. Roy Lee Jones went from labor to reward on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at his residence in Lansing, Michigan. He was 68 years old. Roy was born in Chicago, Illinois, on Thursday, April 5, 1956, the son of George Ella Burks Williams and John Wright.
In his early childhood, Roy moved to Lansing, Michigan, where he grew up and built a life rooted in faith, family, and community.
Roy was a proud graduate of Eastern High School and pursued further studies at Lansing Community College. Once old enough, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he initially served in the infantry driving trucks and jeeps before transitioning to serve as a medic, a role that reflected his deep care for others. After his military service, Roy worked in the hardware department at Meijer in Okemos, where he became a familiar face to many.
A man of unwavering faith, Roy’s personal relationship with Jesus Christ was the foundation of his life. He began his spiritual journey at Mount Olive Baptist Church and Mercy Seat Baptist Church in Lansing before joining Faith Fellowship Baptist Church in 2008 with his beloved wife, Jackie. Roy was known as the neighborhood evangelist and mentor.
Roy had a passion for life’s simple joys He loved yard work, grilling, and cooking for his loved ones. A true movie buff, he enjoyed watching films and sharing his dry sense of humor, which often left people laughing in unexpected ways. Though a private person, Roy had a deep and sacred love for his family and friends. He was fiercely loyal and always had the backs of those he cared about.
An avid sports enthusiast, Roy was a dedicated fan of the Michigan State Spartans and the Detroit Lions, cheering them on with enthusiasm.
Roy leaves to cherish and love his memory his loving wife, Jacqueline Kay Jones; 4 daughters, Charlotte D. (Rodney) Buxton, Amber Mitchell, Lindsay (Matthew) Martinaeu, and Erin Suddon; son, Tyriece (Sarah) Mitchell; grandchildren, Annalise Murphy, Natalia Martinaeu, Amila Martinaeu, Maddox Martinaeu, Taven McCarn, Malachi Mitchell, Aston Seadorf, LeOnta Seadorf, RoseMarie Murphy, and Jamella Kruger; sister, June Burks; 4 brothers, Sam (Kim) Davis, James Curtis (WillaMae) Burks, Raymond (Megan) Burks, and James Edward (Heather) Burks; nieces, Jasmine Burks, Autumn Burks, and Karrissa Burks; nephews, Noah Burks, Jaedan Burks, Jordan Burks, Jesse Burks, Caleb Burkes, Darnell Smith, Deon Gladney, and Killian Burks; nieces and nephews, Diedra (Mark), Wayne, David, Heather (John), Kalie, Curtis, Jerry, Lindsay (Stephen), Stephen, Jr., Hattie, and Olivia; cousins, Beulah, Roshelle , Sheila, Crystal, Cecil, and Curtis; sister-in-law, Diane Alice (Larry S.) David “Lady Di”; other relatives and friends including Brothers in Christ, Reggie Overton, Rodney Smith, Minister Edward Forrest, and Dallas.
He was preceded in death by his son, Noll Perkin; parents, Jesse Burks, Sr. and George Ella Burks-Williams; and sister, Catherine Smith.
