Rozzette Pennington

October 12, 1968 — May 22, 2015

Rozzette Regina Pennington passed away Friday, May 22, 2015 at Providence Park Hospital in Southfield, Michigan at the age of 46 years. She was born October 12, 1968 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Sherry Pennington and J.D. Davis. Rozzette was welcomed into Heaven by family and friends, but most importantly, her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Rozzette attended Saginaw Public Schools and was a graduate of Arthur Hill High School Class of 1986. She accepted and learned of Jesus Christ at an early age, and she grew up in Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. Upon graduating from high school, Roz relocated to Detroit, Michigan to attend Wayne State University majoring in Accounting. Rozzette resided in Detroit, Michigan over 20 years. There, she was a member of New Mt. Hope Missionary Baptist Church under leadership of Dr. David Roberson. She began her career in the medical industry working for major health care companies including Accretive Health, Henry Ford Health System, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.
Rozzette was affectionately called 'Pooh Pooh' by her close family and friends. She was outgoing, loving, caring and humorous. She was cherished for her love for God, stimulating conversations, and unwavering love for her daughter, Devan. Roz was raised by her maternal grandmother, Marie Dunnaway; nevertheless, she was a mamas girl. They spent countless moments enjoying each other until her mom became one of her angels in 2011. One of the highlights of Rozzettes life was giving birth to her daughter, Devan Makaiya in 1996. Roz and her daughter were best friends. One of her happiest moments was seeing Devan graduate with honors in May of 2014. She was extremely proud upon Devans completion of her 1st year at Michigan State University this year.
Roz enjoyed shopping, cooking, attending church, and sharing stories about her upbringing and nuggets of wisdom that her grandmother shared with her. She made sure the Dunnaway Family remained close. Rozzette was also a lover of good wholesome quality music including artists such as Deitrick Haddon, Fred Hammond, Jagged Edge and New Edition. Her faith in God was strong and she believed that He was in control. In spite of everything she faced over the last several years, Roz remained positive. Her favorite scripture was Isaiah 58:11 "The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail." (NIV) Roz believed that Life has an amazing way of bringing you full circle. For every trial with the Lord there will be a triumph, for every test God is fine tuning your testimony.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Devan Makaiya, three brothers, Howard, Maurice and Tellious Scott; one sister, Mona Davis; nieces and nephews, Tya Joy, Trevion and Tellious Jr.; grandmother, Marie Dunnaway; one aunt, Gabriel Pendleton; seven uncles, Curtis Smith Pendleton, Derrick and Lawrence Dunnaway, John Clark and William White, Charles and Tellious Pendleton; many cousins including very special cousins, Latrice Monroe whom she called Missy, Darnell Dunnaway whom she called Deke, Charla Liggins and Johniece Clark, Sheree Pendleton, Gwen Russell, and Verdell Winn; special friends, Steve Evans, George Henton, Robert Jamison, Antionette Tripplet, Cynthia Young, Sonya Curtis, Tameka Young and Felesia Harrell; many other friends and associates.
Rozzette was preceded in death by her parents, Sherry Pennington and J.D. Davis, grandfather Tellious Pennington and her cousin Antionne Monroe.
