Ru'Ja Mona Moten

May 1, 1994 — May 7, 2021

Our beloved mother, daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt, and cousin gained her angelic wings on May 7, 2021. Ru’Ja Mona Moten was born on May 1, 1994 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Rudolph Sr. and Mary Moten.

Ru’Ja attended Bridgeport High School where she graduated in 2012. She continued her education at Central Michigan University where she studied to pursue a degree in the medical field. She later attended Ferris State University where she received a bachelor’s degree in Social Work. During that time, Ru’Ja was on the Dean’s List, and was inducted into the Phi Alpha Honor Society. While attending Ferris State University, Ru’Ja received two internship opportunities, Project Starbursts and Degage Ministries. Because of her dedication, Ru’Ja was offered a position at Degage Ministries in the Social Work Department. Prior to her employment at Degage Ministries, Ru’Ja was an employee of Spectrum Health.

Ru’Ja had a heart for helping others; she devoted countless hours to providing community service, tutoring, mentoring youth, and working with the mayor of Grand Rapids on the city’s beautification project. The time that Ru’Ja dedicated to community service inspired her to further her education by enrolling in the Master of Social Work program at Grand Valley State University, where she attended classes until she became ill.

Ru’Ja enjoyed shopping (and more shopping), and she loved to spend time with family and friends, especially her mother.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ernest Sr. (Dwandra) Moten, James Nickleberry; great-grandparents, Julia King, Betty Edmond, Eugene (Earnestine) Moten, and Marie Nickleberry.

Celebrating her life are her parents, Rudolph Moten, Sr., and Mary Moten; her beloved son, Floyd Mims IV; two brothers, Rudolph Bert Moten, Jr., James Anthony Moten; significant other, Floyd Mims, III; grandparents, Mitchell (Edna) Jones; three aunts, Deloris (Derek) Taylor, Shaleana McKinney, Nikia Williams; three uncles, Ernest Moten, Jr., Demond Moten, Torey Moten; nieces, Ny’Aisijah Moten, Kyrah Moten, Remiere Moten; great-uncles, John King, Wayne (Trena) King, Julius Johnson; great-aunt, Vera King and a host of other aunts, uncles and cousins; best-friends, Angela Phillips, Destinie Reid, Jaquaya Williams, Brittany Davis; special cousins, Starletta King, Tray'von James, Ny’Ara Love, Damon Ledbetter; godparents, Jerome (Dorothy) House.
