Russell Brown

September 26, 1961 — December 3, 2014

For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. 2 Timothy 4: 6-8 (KJV)
Russell James Brown was born on September 26, 1961, to Vernell and Betty Bickham Brown in Independence, Louisiana. He departed this life on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at the age of 54 years.
Russell was a very outgoing and giving person. He would cut his neighbors yards, for pay, of course. And in his mind, he owned 27th Street. He was loved by many because of his personality and giving heart. Upon graduation from Sacred Heart High School in Saginaw, Michigan, Russell enlisted in the armed services. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army until he became disabled. Russell accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and was a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Saginaw, Michigan under the leadership of Pastor Miles Franklin. His faith was developed through his personal relationship with God.
He will be affectionately remembered by his parents, Betty and Reverend Lenton Collier and Vernell and Mildred Brown; two sons, Russell James Brown, Jr. of Panama and Apollo Reon Brown, Sr. of Saginaw, Michigan; one grandson, Apollo Reon Brown, Jr.; six sisters, Theresa Collier, Neldia Abraham and Fornntier (David) Blount, all of Hammond, Louisiana, Anna Rohegan, Trina Burns and Janice Pack, all of Saginaw, Michigan; seven brothers, Kiven (Shonda) Brown and Cal Collier, both of Houston, Texas, William Brown of New Orleans, Louisiana, Calvin Brooks of Saginaw, Michigan, Melvin and Lenton (Janice) Collier, Jr., both of Hammond, Louisiana and Leonard Rohegan; three aunts, Virgie Anthony, Eloise Bickham and Wilma (Henry) Fairley, all of Hammond, Louisiana; one uncle, Russell (Linda) Bickham of Hammond, Louisiana; loving godparents and aunt and uncle, Mattie and Frank Moore of Saginaw, Michigan; a loving and devoted niece that he loved like a daughter, Keowanna Billings Mitchell of Hammond, Louisiana; god-daughter, India Gains of Saginaw, Michigan; best friend, Paul Solomon and long-time friend David Long, both of Saginaw, Michigan; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Cory Brown and brothers, Vurnell Brown, Jr. and Morris A. Brown.
