Samie D. Jamerson “Black Red” the son Jessie Jamerson and Gertrude Jackson departed this life on his eldest daughter’s birthday, Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Covenant HealthCare-Cooper, following a brief illness. Age 89 years young. He was born July 23, 1928, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
Samie was raised by his grandmother, Ada Perry. He was separated from his family in 1945 following a house fire at the age of seventeen. Samie was blessed to have friends that he took on as brothers such as Emzie Hulett, Lee Owens (Little Red) and the Ruth family. Samie's brother, Emzie Hulett sent for him after finding employment for himself in Saginaw, Michigan in 1953 at the Grey Iron Foundry. Soon after arriving in Saginaw, Samie gained employment, retiring in 1992 after 45 years of service. Samie was also a member of Local #668. He married Leanda Brooks February 7, 1959, she survives him.
In 1992, Samie was reunited with his siblings that he believed were victims of the house fire many years before that took the life of his father, Jessie, and a few of his siblings. In his spare time, Samie enjoyed spending time with his family, baseball, fishing, listening to the blues, and playing cards. He was a “jack of all trades.” He fixed cars, did plumbing, put on roofs, and built houses for others.
He leaves to cherish his legacy his wife of 58 years, Leanda Jamerson; nine daughters: Elsie Thomas, Pearlie Mae Wesby-Adams, Cordia (Gilbert) Scott, Patricia (Michael) Morris, Betty (Reginald) Elerby, Beverly (Will) Brown, Tina (Tomas) Mata, Alfreda (Maurice) Randle and Freda (Marco) Ward Sr.; forty grandchildren, fifty-five great-great-grandchildren and five great-great-great-grandchildren including special granddaughter and caregiver, Chanel Dowell and special niece, Doris Jones; seven sisters: Alberta (Ray) Lee and Florida Clark of Muskegon, Josephine Wooden, Lille Harris, Jamie Ruth, Rodell Craft, Irene (Jim) Olithant all of Saginaw, Michigan; three brothers: Robert Jamison, Muskegon, Michigan, Robert Ruth, and Charles (Mary) Ruth, Saginaw, Michigan; two sisters-in-law, Willie Pleasant and Lois Whitlock; one brother-in-law, John Brown; goddaughter, Lisa Grant; two godsons, Barry Booker and James Clay; friends, Curtis Thomas, Mr. Cooper (Coop), Ulish Watson, Ed Marshall and the Sheridan Park grandchildren; he also leaves his dog, Billy.
Samie was preceded in death by many family members and friends including: his parents, daughter, Cora, son, Sammie C., granddaughter, Shalana, grandson, George, great-grandson, George E., great-great-granddaughter, Nevaeh and friend, Ernestine Jamerson.
