Sammie Rodgers, Jr. (Lansing)

Mr. Sammie Rodgers, Jr. received his Heavenly elevation Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. Age 61 years. He was born January 19, 1958 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Sammie Rodgers, Sr. and Zelma Rodgers.

Sammie married the love of his life, Mary Ann “Boo” Swanigan on May 24, 1979 and they were blessed with their daughter, Tamara. He gave his life to Christ, Friday, May 25, 1979 at Full Gospel Tabernacle in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Sammie was a man of faith and compassion. The street and ministering to the unchurch became his passion. Sammie shared the Gospel of Jesus Christ everywhere he went. Sammie completed high school and went on to further his education at Craigs College of Beauty and Cosmetology School; graduating in 1987. He began a life long career in the field of cosmetology where he subsequently became one of best and well-known hairstylist in the state of Michigan and beyond. Some of his favorite things to do was fishing, shooting pool, spending time with family and those he loved. He loved to eat, had a great sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. Sammie was a peace-maker with an infectious smile that would light up a room.

Sammie leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Mary Ann “Boo” Rodgers, Dewitt, Michigan; daughter, Tamara (Aaron) Gates, Flint, Michigan; two grandchildren, Devita Buck, Flint, Michigan and Stefan Rodgers, Swartz Creek, Michigan; two great-grandchildren, Maliah and Bailey Rodgers, Swartz Creek, Michigan; mother, Zelma Rodgers, Holt, Michigan; two sisters, Monica Jones, Chicago, Illinois and Alexandria Rodgers, Lansing, Michigan; three brothers, Ivan (Diane) Rodgers, Ervan (Marjorie) Rodgers and Courtney Rodgers, all of Lansing, Michigan; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Sammie Rodgers, Sr.; maternal and paternal grandparents and niece, Kiani Rodgers.
