Sampson Pittman Jr.

August 15, 1936 — January 30, 2022

Loving father, grand-father, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, Mr. Sampson Pittman Jr., passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2022, at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. Age 85 years. He was born August 15, 1936, in Blytheville, Arkansas to Sampson Sr. and Myrtle Pittman.


Mr. Pittman was a longtime resident of Saginaw, Michigan. He and Rosie Taylor united in Holy Matrimony on Christmas Day 1954 their union that lasted 67 years. Sampson learned to play the guitar at a young age. He played lead guitar in many bands on and off stage, sharing his gift. He loved hosting and entertaining family and friends. Sampson was a loyal Deacon at Glorious Temple where he served as a faithful Minister of Music. Later, Deacon Pittman united with Dwelling Place Church of God in Christ (COGIC) where he played guitar. After serving there, He joined New Faith Temple COGIC under leadership of Pastor Charles Coleman. Mr. Pittman retired from the Saginaw Board of Education as a Custodian after 25 years of employment. He and Rosie entered the adult foster care business and cared for a number of people in their home. Mr. Sampson will be truly missed by many.


He leaves to cherish his memories two daughters, Darlene Anderson and Atrola Washington; nine grandchildren, James (Toni) Clay, Saginaw Michigan, Darquise Arthur, Atlanta, Georgia, David (Sarina) Anderson, Rachelle Pittman and Faith (Troy) Webb, all of Saginaw, Michigan, Gretchen (Brent) Davis, Monica Anderson, Jeronica (Chris) Robertson, Terriona Washington, all of Atlanta, Georgia; many great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; six sisters, EverJean (Charles) Frazier, and Othella Grant, Detroit, Michigan; Virgie Williams, Saginaw, Michigan, Theresa (Edward) Bean, Flint, Michigan, Bethsheba (Jefferson) Grant, Tennessee, Delilah (Robert) Adams, Detroit, Michigan; two brothers Howard (Rosie) Pittman, and Ivory Glass, Nashville, Tennessee; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Larry and Carrie Campbell.


Mr. Pittman was preceded in death by his wife, Rosie Pittman; parents, Sampson and Myrtle Pittman; siblings, Gwonder Lee, Jorethea Pittman, Autrola Thurman, Everlena, Robert Lee, and Eugene Pittman, Juanita Clark, George Glass Jr., Knoxie Pittman, and Lemyrthia; two grandchildren, Nia, and Zachary Anderson; one son-in-law, David Anderson Sr.
