Sarah Woodson (Lansing)

Mrs. Sarah Muriel Woodson passed away Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Sparrow Hospice House of MidMichigan in Lansing, Michigan. Age 98 years. She was born on Sunday morning at 2:00 a.m. on August 30, 1925, in Charleston, West Virginia to Sarah Norton Spencer and Willie Spencer. She was the fourth child in a family of six.

Sarah lost her mother when she was four years of age. She was raised by relatives in Chicago, Illinois and Detroit, Michigan. She graduated from Detroit Northern High School and attended Wayne County Community College. Sarah was employed by the State of Michigan for over forty years.

Sarah was an active member at St. Phillips Lutheran Church in Detroit before moving to Antioch, Tennessee.  There she attended Faith Lutheran Church. Finally moving to Lansing, Michigan, becoming an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Sarah met Kenneth Woodson in Detroit. They dated for two years and married in June 1948. Two children were born to them, Gregory Eugene and Janice Elaine.

Sarah had a green thumb, who had a great love for gardening, especially roses. She loved bowling and was a world traveler to many places including the Great Wall in China, Hawaii, France, Spain, North Africa, Rome, and Florence, Italy to name a few.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Janice Woodson-Banks; grandchild, Erica Banks; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by husband, Kenneth Woodson; son, Gregory Woodson; and parents, Sarah and Willie Spencer.
