Shabazz Adams (Lansing)

August 19, 1999 — September 28, 2023

A smile that illuminated our lives will now be shining bright on us from Heaven. Shabazz DeShawn Adams, age 24 years, of Lansing, Michigan, passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2023.


He was born in Flint, Michigan on Thursday, August 19, 1999. His family was his whole world. His pure heart, loving soul, and his smile that would light up the room are what we will cherish the most.


Shabazz graduated from J.W Sexton High School before joining the United States Army in 2017, where he served faithfully until 2022.


Shabazz was a member of Paradise Missionary Baptist Church where he was involved in the youth choir, usher board, and an integral part of the media department.


Shabazz had a passion for giving back to local businesses in his community. Giving back is what brought him immense joy.


Everyone who knew Shabazz knew how much he loved spending time with his family, watching sports, and attending MSU basketball and football games. He was a big fan!


Shabazz will always be remembered for his pure heart and the way he loved his family and how he gave back to the community. We’ll always imagine hearing him say “I love my family". We couldn’t have asked for a better son, brother, nephew, cousin and friend. We will miss Shabazz every day. His memory will live on in our hearts for all those who loved him.


Shabazz was survived by his parents Derrick Adams Sr. and Cassandra Adams; biological mom, Willette White; grandmother: Lillian Slaughter; ten siblings, brothers, Derrick Adams II, Anthony, Lawrence, and Bilal, Wilford; sisters, Tyria (Victoria) Norris, Latyra Norris, Willette, Nicole, and Sylvia; nieces and nephews: Kenton, Amiyah, Amariyae, William, Alexis, Aniya, Derrick, Derrick III, Jock, Brysen, Naleisha, Naliyah, Ariel, Amari, Ava, Sondy, Teisha, Kolt, Lawrenne, Jaylen, and Nalina; many aunts, uncles, cousins including special cousins, Don Garrett Jr and Marcus Wourman.; other relatives and friends including special friends, Joseph DeLaCruz and Brawn Davis.


Shabazz was preceded in death by his biological father, Larry White; grandparents, AJ and Ethel Norris, Grady and Rosetta Freeman, Willie Mae-White, Willie Stewart and William Slaughter; great-grandmother, Theodoria Wilkerson; uncles, James Norris and Bobby Johnson; and aunts, Janet Norris and Jessica Adams.
