Sharon Powell (Lansing)

Ms. Sharon Elaine Powell departed this life Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at the age of 81 years old. She was born Tuesday, September 8, 1942, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the daughter of R.J. and Lorraine Sutton.

Sharon was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School. She was employed by Borgess Medical Hospital, until moving to Lansing, Michigan in 1982, where she became employed by St. Lawrence Hospital. Sharon accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at Second Baptist Church in Kalamazoo, under the leadership of Pastor Bernis Warfield Sr. After moving to Lansing, she joined Union Missionary Baptist Church, and began working with the Puppet Ministry.

Sharon is survived by 3 sons, Adonis Brooks, Richard Brooks, and James (Gloria) Powell; 25 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Colette (Edward ) Woods of Lansing, Michigan and Vanessa Sutton of Hillsborough, New Jersey; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives including 3 young boys from Sudan that were fostered by Sharon, and friends.

She was preceded in death by 2 daughters Nikki Powell and Kesha Powell; parents, R.J. and Lorraine Sutton; 4 sisters Jeanette and Lynette Sutton, Nellie Terry, and Sarita Collins; 3 brothers Kevin Sutton, James Sutton, and Richard Sutton.
