Shawn Cook (Lansing)

Mr. Shawn DeAngelo Cook departed this life on Friday, September 20, 2019 at his residence in Lansing, Michigan. Age 52 years. He was born September 10, 1967 in Lansing, Michigan to Eldridge and Shirley Cook.

Shawn was raised in the Lansing Church of God in Christ. He attended Wainwright Elementary School, Dwight Rich Junior High and J.W. Sexton High School. He graduated in 1985. Shawn played in the Sexton Marching Band. He loved sports, playing football and baseball during high school. Shawn was inducted twice into the J. W. Sexton High School Athletic Hall of Fame; on September 14, 2018 as the manager of the 1984 Basketball team and September 13, 2019 as a member of their 1985 CAC Champions Baseball team. He attended Lansing Community College after high school. Shawn was currently employed by the State of Michigan at the Center of Forensic Psychiatry as a Fire & Safety Officer in Saline, Michigan. He previously worked at the Roadhouse Restaurant in East Lansing and at W. J. Maxey Training School, Whitmore Lake, Michigan, until its closing.

Shawn was an avid reader and had a Gift of Gab. He was a hard worker and wanted his family to be well taken care of. Shawn had a huge heart, he was extremely wise and insightful. He had a great sense of humor with a laugh that could make a heavy heart soar. Shawn’s smile was brighter than the stars. He will be dearly missed and will live on forever in our heart and memories.

Shawn leaves to cherish his memory his lovely daughter Aviena Danelle Cook of Lansing; his loving parents, Eldridge and Shirley Cook of Lansing; two sisters LaTonya Denae Cook of Lansing and Allysia Danelle Cook of Lansing. His mother- and father-in-law, John and Laurita Bassila of Florida; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and coworkers.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Delina on February 18, 2019; his grandparents, Oceola and Mamie Jackson; James and Juanita Cook.
