Sheley Porter-Palmore

Sheley “Shirley” Porter-Palmore, our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister and Friend, gained her wings and went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 26, 2018 in Des Moines, Iowa. Age 65 years.

She was born July 5, 1953 in Wolfisland, Missouri to Ernestine and Homer Porter, Jr. Sheley moved to Saginaw, Michigan in 1957 at the age of four years old. She attended Buena Vista High School, “Class of 1971.” She attended Saginaw Career Complex and obtained a certificate for tool and die making. She also attended Ivy Tech Community College in Indianapolis, Indiana, studying Business Management.

Sheley enjoyed church and she loved her church family, Faith Tabernacle Church of God in Christ in West Des Moines, Iowa and Freedom Full Gospel Baptist Church in Saginaw, Michigan. Sheley’s Ministry was making sure everyone felt loved and she was known in Saginaw, Indiana, Los Angeles and Des Moines as “Suga Sheley” for her baking.

Sheley married Virgil Arnette Palmore on January 1, 1998 in Indianapolis, Indiana. They lived in Indiana for twenty years. Sheley relocated to Des Moines, Iowa in 2009.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Palmore; parents, Ernestine Porter Packard, Homer Porter, Jr. and stepfather, William “Bo Legs” Packard; daughter LaTasha Porter; siblings, Homer Porter, III, Easter White, Helen White; grandparents, Homer and Irene Porter, Leonard and Erma Wheeler; granddaughter, Rivona Stewart; stepsister, Leola Packard; nephews, Aaron Porter and Dameon Baber.

Sheley leaves to celebrate her life daughter, Taline Jones Bell, Saginaw, Michigan; son, Omari Porter, Indianapolis, Indiana; sisters, Ora L. Bryant, Hawthorne, California, Mary Ann Jones, Saginaw, Michigan, Irene (Clifford) Terry, Phoenix, Arizona; brothers, Robert (Helen) Henley, Saginaw, Michigan, Harry Porter, Phoenix, Arizona; brother-in-law, Charles W. Jones, Saginaw, Michigan; sister-in-law, Shelia K. Porter, Bowling Green Ohio; grandchildren, DeMarcus (LaToya), Tramel Evans, LaTasha, Dameon (Latrice) Jones, Sir Braden Smith, Indianapolis, Indiana, Geneine, Caleb Jones, Canton, Michigan, Moses (Jasmine) Jones, Atlanta, Georgia, Aurelious Woods, Jr., Indianapolis, Indiana, Hope Woods, Mt. Sheley will truly be missed by her church family, work friends, and neighbors at Baker Creek Senior Apartments in Des Moines, Iowa.
