Shelia Denise Austin

January 14, 1962 — October 20, 2023

Shelia Denise Austin, a radiant and cherished presence in our lives, has left us, but her memory will forever shine brightly in our hearts. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Shelia passed away on October 20th, 2023, at the age of 61 in Saginaw, Michigan.

Shelia was a remarkable woman whose boundless happiness, caring nature, and unwavering love touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She exuded positivity, and her infectious spirit was a source of inspiration to many.

Shelia was a member of Messiah Missionary Baptist Church. She graduated from Saginaw High School Class of 1980. She loved spending time with her family and friends, but her favorite hobby was bingo. Shelia will forever be known as the Bingo Queen.

Shelia's love knew no bounds. She was not only a devoted mother to her children Sam (Sheena) Austin and Sheena (Marquavis) Austin-Martin but also a mother to the entire neighborhood. She was loved by her family and friends, mother, Leola Griffin; sisters, Elnora Smith, Donna Hughes, Debra Brown; brothers, Keith Hughes, Arteria "Terry" Hughes, Derrick Hughes; bonus sister, LouAnn Fresorger; grandchildren, Jayden Austin, Janaiya Martin, Jada Austin, Cameron Austin, Jakari Martin; godchildren, Brandy Garett, Brittiany Shropshire, Whitney Wheeler, and Wen’Zell Franklin; special friends, Mary Benjamin, Bridget Patrick, June Swift, Tanya Green, Shelia Meredith, Peggy Harvey, Tracey Brewer, and Patrice Williams; many nieces, nephew, cousins, and friends. Her warm embrace, kind words, and nurturing spirit made her a pillar of strength in our lives. She shared her love with an open heart, and her impact on the lives she touched was immeasurable.

Shelia was preceded in death by her fathers, Joe Snead and Zeb Griffin, her brothers Keith and Derrick Hughes, her close friends, Millie Coston and Jana Williams, and a few aunts and uncles.

One of the most remarkable aspects of Shelia was her distinct and unforgettable voice. It was a voice that resonated with joy and warmth, a voice that could be recognized by all who heard it. Her laughter was particularly enchanting, capable of lighting up even the darkest of rooms. The sound of her laughter was a reminder that life should be lived with joy, and it brought smiles to all who had the pleasure of hearing it.

As we mourn the loss of Shelia, we also celebrate the incredible life she led and the profound influence she had on all of us. Her memory will continue to shine brightly, and her legacy of love and positivity will live on in our hearts.

Shelia Austin will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her passing leaves a void that can never be filled, but her love and spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
