Shirlene Eikner (Lansing)

July 10, 1933 — March 25, 2024

On the evening of Monday, March 25, 2024, Shirlene Eikner was called home to join her Father in Heaven, at the age of 90 years old. She was born Monday, July 10, 1933, to Charles Finley and Alene Jackson in Gainesville, Texas.

Shirlene and Fred Eikner met and realized that they were meant to spend their lives together. They wed in 1951 and Shirlene became the mother of four children, grandmother of 6, great-grandmother of 8, and great-great-grandmother of 1. She was proud of her family as was evidenced by the way that she cared for them. They were always “put together,” shoes shined with clothing neat and matching, never a hair out of place! The whole family was spit shined and polished! Shirlene was a lovely wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother!

During the holidays she welcomed the family home to celebrate. Whenever there was a need she was there to meet it, always willing to do what she could to keep her family together.

Shirlene worked and retired from United States Postal Service Management, in Lansing. While there her goal was always to “get the mail out on time,” and that she did! She was strong, wise, loving, kind and had the sweetest smile. You could feel the blessing of her support upon you wherever you went.

In retirement Shirlene was very active, traveling with friends and family, working out at the “Y” three days a week, and playing bridge with her friends on Mondays! Her friends played a very important role in her life. When the Covid shutdown occurred, Shirlene reached out to the family to join her at home for companionship. We responded to the call surrounding her with love and support.

After a time, illness took over her body, but it did not take over who she was a beautiful, strong, giving, and loving person.

She leaves to mourn her loss, her daughters, Beryl and Sheryl, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter, and a host of relatives and friends.

Shirlene was preceded in death by her husband Fred; son, Fred Jr., and daughter, Callie; parents, Charles and Alene; and brother, Don Finley.
