Ms. Shirley Avery passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Stone Crest Assisted Living Center. Age 76 years. She was born on July 26, 1948, to Quita Ellis and James Wilson, in Camden, Arkansas.
Shirley, a resident of Saginaw, Michigan, attended Zion Valley Baptist Church where she served with the Women of Praise and the Ushers' Ministry. She was an awesome mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. Ms. Avery was very straightforward with a no-nonsense approach; she said what she said and meant every word she said; there was no room for misunderstanding. Shirley will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Ms. Avery leaves loving memories with one daughter and three sons: Lynden Avery, Palace Tina Carr, Darwin Avery, and James Menzie; she will be sorely missed by her 18 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; one and only sister, Ivy Menzie; and one nephew, David Highsmith, all of Saginaw, Michigan, and two special friends Renee Meredith and Esther Benson.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jacqueline Avery; her parents, Quita Ellis and James Wilson; and a brother-in-law, Ernest Menzie.
The family would like to express special thanks to the Staff at Stone Crest Assisted Living Center, Cardinal Hospice, and A&D Health Service.
