Ms. Shirley Ann Cooper went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at MyMichigan Medical Center Saginaw, at the age of 77.
Shirley was born on August 19, 1947, in New Iberia, Louisiana. She was the daughter of the late James Jessie Jackson and Lillie Ann Jackson. At a young age, Shirley's parents relocated to Benton Harbor, Michigan, where Shirley later moved to Saginaw to pursue her nursing career.
Shirley was perhaps best known for her role as a grandmother, lovingly called "Granny" by her 8 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. She shared countless stories and created cherished memories that will be passed down through generations. Shirley had an innate love for children and helped raise many of her nieces and nephews, offering them love and guidance.
Shirley is survived by her loving daughter, Robin Young, Winter Haven, Florida; grandchildren, Eric Brown, Jasmin Young, Orlando, Florida, Kiara Shehee, Sharman Shehee Shreveport, Louisiana, Shanieka Terrell Atlanta, Georgia, Drucilla Houston Bay City, Michigan, and Eugene Bailey Saginaw, Michigan; siblings, Sheila Mobley, Lisa Jackson Saginaw, Michigan, Vanessa Lauderdale, Kansas City, Missouri, Cindy Jackson, Benton Harbor, Michigan, Phyllisha Jackson Detroit, Michigan. She also leaves behind countless nieces and nephews; special friends, Roney Gibbon, Dave Whittington, Lupe, Hanna, Jackie, Steve (Linda) the Weadock Family, Joe Shehee, Dennis Brown; extended family the Stidhum, Whittington, Lauderdale and Brown families who will forever remember her kindness, wisdom, and infectious laughter; special nieces, Candice Russell, Adisha Burton, and Sharda Jackson.
Shirley was preceded in death by her children, Leroy Brown Jr., Carl Van Cooper and Stefanie Shehee; granddaughter, Harmony Nicole Burns; parent,s James Jessie Jackson, Lillie Ann Jackson; bonus mom, Demona Jackson; ex-husbands, Leroy Brown and Clinter Roy Cooper; sisters, Diane Jackson, Lisa Long, and Archia Allen; brother, James Jessie Jackson Jr.; son-in-love, Jonathan Young; brother-in-love, Jeffrey Lauderdale, and Ronald Mobley, all with whom she is now reunited in eternal peace.
