Shirley Kirkland (Lansing)

Mrs. Shirley Kirkland passed away Friday, October 11, 2019 at her residence in Lansing, Michigan. Age 78 years. The daughter of Jessie D. Davis; she was born March 7, 1941 in Saint Louis, Missouri.

Shirley was a long-time resident of Lansing, Michigan. She graduated from J. W. Sexton High School and studied at Michigan State University. Shirley worked in the Department of English at Michigan State University for over 30 years as the Office Supervisor. She successfully mentored young women of color at Michigan State University, who wanted to become supervisors. Eventually the women achieved their goals and became successful and fair supervisors. Shirley was an active member of Union Missionary Baptist Church until her health failed. Her greatest joy was the love she had for her children and grandchildren.

Shirley leaves to cherish her memory her children, daughter and caregiver, Janine I. Fubara, Lansing, Michigan and son, Edward I. (LaVerne) Fubara, Angier, North Carolina; 7 grandchildren, Caeisha Fubara, San Diego, California; Abiye Fubara and Priye Fubara both of Atlanta, Georgia, Cameron Dunn and Dyron Dunn both of Lansing, Michigan, Adonye Fubara, Seattle, Washington and Sodienye Fubara, Angier, North Carolina; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother.
