Ms. Shirley Stacy passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at her residence in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Age 78 years. She was born on Wednesday, January 2, 1946, in Charleston, Missouri, to her parents, Claude Mitts and Alene Halliburton.
Shirley was raised in Lansing, Michigan before moving to Albuquerque, New Mexico. There, Shirley became the first Black female Transit Driver for the City of Albuquerque, Suntran Bus Service until her retirement. After relocating to Albuquerque, Shirley united with Phillips CME Chapel Church, where she served faithfully. She served on the Usher Board and was a dedicated member, always willing to serve and assist her fellow parishioners.
Shirley was outgoing, outspoken with a heart of gold. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Shirley leaves to cherish her memory her brother, Samuel Nealy, III; nieces and nephews, Christphor Johnson Sr., Cynthia Jackson, Darian Nealy Sr., Carl Mitts Jr., Vanessa Mitts, Sevetra McClurkin, and Tyron Mitts; cousins, A.C. Cleaves “Bubba”, Maxine (Mitz) Dean, Kenneth Mitz, Gloria Jean (Mitz) Frazier; brother-in-law, Allen Brown; many friends including special friends, Shannon Bouldin, Mary Woods, Donna Stafford, and Jean Johnson of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Ida Scott of Lansing, Michigan.
She was preceded in death by her mother Alene Hamilton, step father, Lather Hamilton; father, Claude Mitts; brothers Floyd, Carl, Lawrence, and Meachum; sister Darlene; nephew, Keeba R. Johnson, and niece, Sonji E. Mitts.
