Sonya Marie Taylor (Lansing)

March 15, 1968 — December 9, 2023

Ms. Sonya Marie Taylor left this world suddenly on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Sparrow Health System, Sparrow Campus in Lansing, Michigan at the age of 55 years old. She was born Friday, March 15, 1968, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Belita Buckner and Darrell Taylor.

Sonya was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. Sonya graduated from Martin Luther King, Jr. High School in 1987 on the south side of Chicago. Being the only girl with two brothers, she was definitely catered to as the baby girl which followed her into adulthood. Years later, after having 5 wonderful children, she and her family moved to Michigan seeking a better life. Sonya held multiple jobs including factory worker at Peckham, server at the Lansing Center, and working as a home health provider for many years. She accepted Christ in her life at an early age and believed in His Word. She attended Jesus of Nazareth Church of God in Christ where she was a beloved member. Sonya enjoyed life to the fullest. You could always tell when she was around because she had a crazy loud laugh that made you laugh as well. Sonya was loving, funny, caring, stubborn, and very close to God. Everything she did in life, whether right or wrong, she knew only God’s judgement counted the most. Her last days, she looked to God, more frequently, maybe she knew he was calling her home soon. Her ability to spread love and laughter will be forever engraved in all hearts and memories. Although her life was cut short, she truly left her mark in this world and on the hearts of those who loved her the most.

She leaves to cherish her love and memories, two daughters, Patrice Taylor of Detroit, Michigan and Chareese Taylor of Lansing, Michigan; two sons, Akeen Taylor and Ahmad Taylor both of Lansing, Michigan; grandchildren, Lemmecia, Lemrenzo, Lemesha, Lemmariah and Lemron Jones, Akeen Taylor, Jr., and Rickey Rashad Taylor all of Lansing, Michigan, Camille Salas and Jeremiah Taylor-Salas both of Detroit, Michigan, Amiya and Liya Taylor both of Grand Rapids, Michigan; mother, Belita Buckner; five sisters, Latrice Jones of Lansing, Michigan, Larivva Whitfield of Arkansas, Tamicko Cooper of Chicago, Illinios, Cherae Williams of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Tiffany Taylor of Lansing, Michigan; brothers, Jessie Taylor, Kenton Taylor and Rome Whitfield all of Lansing, Michigan; five nieces, Patrice Taylor, Trena Taylor, Mika Taylor, KiKi Taylor and Serenity Taylor; three nephews, Jessie Taylor III, Kenton Taylor Jr., and Darrell Taylor “Bump”; aunt, Diane Sterling of Chicago, Illinois; two uncles, Oliver Floyd and Guy Taylor both of Chicago, Illinois; cousins, Frank Davis “Pooh”, Donnell Felton, Derky Felton, Ashanta Austin “Fat”, Ashantel Sterling “Little”, Aswald, Joshua Taylor, Yvette Taylor, Xavier Taylor and Jeaneen Taylor; many other relatives and friends.
