Steven Blaine Frarey, 71, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 1, 2024, in Lansing, Michigan.
Steve Frarey, a beloved musician and mentor, passed away, leaving a void in the hearts of all who knew him. Born July 6, 1952, in Canandaigua, New York and raised in Lansing, Michigan, Steve's musical journey began when he witnessed the Beatles' iconic performance on the Ed Sullivan show in 1964, sparking a passion that would shape his life. Inspired by George Harrison, Steve dedicated himself to mastering the guitar, eventually showcasing his talents with various bands such as The Hounds of Baskerville, Flying Rock Circus, Northside Rhythm Kings, Jakki, Joe Keel Action Orchestra, Jack McDuff, Cloudburst, Burning Sensations, Sweet Energy, Carousel, Acme Jam, Root Doctor, Steven Wes Band, and many more. Known for his exceptional talent, Steve was revered for his kindness, incredible sense of humor, and unwavering support of his fellow musicians. His legacy as a musical mentor and gifted artist will forever be cherished. Steve Frarey will be deeply missed but his music will continue to resonate with all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Steve Frarey was preceded in death by his loving parents Russell and Joan Harry, his father Walter Frarey, his grandson Curtis Frarey, and his girlfriend Kathy Engen. Steve (often lovingly referred to as “Pops”) is survived by his younger sister Vickie Frarey and will forever be missed and loved by his three sons: Scott (Wendy) Frarey, Steve (Tamra) Dillingham, and Robert (Zena) Frarey. Grandpa Steve will also be missed by his grandchildren: Sandra, Monica, Cody, Antonio, Brianna, Isiah, Kristina, Cristiano, Elijah, and Micah, and countless extended family members and friendships that span over 60 years. He will forever be missed by all that knew him.
