Susie Washington (Lansing)

Evangelist Susie Mae Washington was called from labor to reward on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at her residence in Lansing, Michigan surrounded by her loving family at the age of 76 years old. She was born on Tuesday, August 10, 1948, in West, Mississippi, the daughter of Rufus Cottrell and Shirley Davis.

Susie was a long-time resident of Lansing, Michigan where she married her second husband, Bishop Tamper Washington. Susie worked as a packing handler for General Motors Corporation and was later promoted to a team leader position in which she trained others until her retirement in the late1980's.

Susie was a woman of God and dedicated her life to serving the Lord. Susie started her ministry at Mount Olive Baptist Church (formerly known as Church of Compassion) under the guidance of Prophet Paul W. Garrett. Susie then went on to work with her husband, Bishop Washington in establishing Greater Joy Outreach Church. Susie's final church home was Shiloah Missionary Baptist Church under Pastor Kevin S. Brown, Sr. During Susie's ministry and walk with God, she held many positions in the church which included: Bible school teacher, Choir member, director of the children's choir, and led Women's Ministry.

Susie dedicated her life to helping those who were less fortunate and mostly rejected by society. Susie had a smile that was contagious and could light up a room whenever she entered. She had many personal interests which included thrift shopping, holding garage sales and spending time with her grand and great­grandchildren.

She leaves to cherish her loving husband, Tamper Washington; 4 children, Milton Carl (Michelle) King Jr., Robert (Bessie Rodriguez) King Jr., Reshia K. (Eric Bledsoe) King; and Shewonna (Anthony) Cotton; stepchild, Temper Allen; grandchildren, La'Toya A.King, Cortez King, Samarhia King, Mercedes Cotton, Nahkeim Cotton, Asia King, Robert King Jr.,

Jasmine King, Diamond King, Kobe Esquivel, Mark Esquivel, Shia Watkins, Javonta Watkins, Derick R. Bledsoe Sr., Dequan Bledsoe, DeAngelo Bledsoe, and Destiny Bledsoe; great grandchildren, Christopher Lavell Moore, Derick R. Bledsoe “DJ” Jr., Adonis Cotton, Carter Bledsoe, Cassius Bledsoe, Jaselle Cotton, Sanai Cotton, and Na'leiyah Cotton; brothers, James Davis of Greenville, Mississippi and Willie Davis, Jr. of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; special niece, Reneasha Hawthrone; nieces, Ann Hawthrone, Shirley Hawthrone-Dugger, Delorise Hawthorne, Regina Hawthrone, Simona Banner, Marci Davis-Campbell, and Michelle Davis; nephews, Larry Hawthrone and Dewayne Hawthrone; Godchildren, Marietta Ellis “Evette”, Vivian R Wright-Farmer, and Beverly McKissic; many other relatives and friends including special friend, Jurisdictional Elect Lady Virgie Milton.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Davis; father, Rufus Cottrell; sister, Annie Mae Hawthrone; brothers, Earl Davis, Samuel Davis, Robert Davis, Mack Arthur Davis, Joe Davis, William Davis; and nephew, Antoine Demetris Hawthorne.
