MT Jones passed away on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family. Age 89 years. MT was born February 10, 1921 in Panola, Alabama to Hillard and Laura (Quarles) Jones. MT married Ethel Mae Lyons on October 30, 1943. She survives him. MT was a faithful and longtime member of Greater Philadelphia Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Nefonzie Pierson where he served on the Deacon Board.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 66 years, Ethel Mae Jones, his children, Mildred Marlow, Dallas Jones, Brenda Shaffer, Wayne Shaffer, Elijah Jones, Sandra Williamson, Loueva Hernandez, Japthea (Gregory) Akins, all of Saginaw, MI and Joe (Carleetha) Jones, Chattanooga, TN, Patricia Tarpley, Deborah (James) Sutton, Barbara Hawkins, Mary (Charles) Helton, Archie Evans, Priscilla (Larry) Owens, Bruce Bailey all of Saginaw, MI., Renee (Anthony) Henderson of Indianapolis, IN., and Robin Hernandez of Lansing, Michigan. 54 grandchildren including a granddaughter he raised, Cynthia Jones; 78 great grandchildren 2 great-great grandchildren many nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends including special cousin, Rev. Oliver (Laura) Quarles also special friends, Walter Giroyer, Sidney (Vashti) Diggs. The family would like to express a very special thank you to Dr. Ernie Balcueva, Nurse Alice of Hospice and the Visiting
Nurse Association for their compassion and care.
MT was preceded in death by his parents, Hillard and Laura (Quarles) Jones, brother, Lee Jones; sister, Julie Baker; brother-in law, Woodrow Baker; grandson, SPC Bobby Mejia II ; daughter, Ernestine Hawkins and two sons-in-law, Eddie J. Marlow Sr., Sterling Hawkins I.
