Terrence Herd "T Herd"

August 18, 1971 — November 10, 2023

Mr. Terrence Herd, “T Herd” was born August 18, 1971, in Saginaw, Michigan to Willie and Gloria Herd. He fought a long and courageous battle with cancer and made his heavenly transition on November 10, 2023, at McLaren Bay Region Hospital in Bay City, Michigan.

“T Herd” graduated from Saginaw High School as an accomplished drum major. He was gifted at playing the bass guitar, keyboards, and piano! At a very young age, he and seven other young men created a group called “Peace.” He wrote inspirational songs, and in his mother’s basement, melodious music was produced! He was also part of a group called “Quiet Storm” that his cousin, Tony Smith, established. He also appeared on many local radio shows.

“T Herd” was an extraordinary musician, producer, and songwriter. He even sang sometimes. He ate, slept and drank music! He was a Mastermind! His love for music continued even while sick in the hospital. He would often say: “I got to get on this track” and would push himself to complete unfinished projects for others. God downloaded to him, three beautiful worship songs that he wrote while in the hospital and sang to his sister.

“T Herd” was a featured musician all around the world, including Motown’s origin city: Detroit, Michigan. He was the Musical Director for the following stage plays: Perilous Times I and II, I’ll Be Home for Christmas, Mama’s Got a Plan, The Return of Mr. Scrooge, Something Special About to Happen, Beauty Shop, Perfect Love Affair, Dancer at My Door and many more. He toured and played for several artists including: The Winans, Commission, KJon, Ken, Tasha Page-Lockhart, The Clark Sisters, Marcus Cole, Kierra Sheard-Kelly and many others.

“T Herd’s” favorite female artist was Kim Burrell. In 2016, his commitment to the arts birthed an R&B/Soul LP entitled, “Born to Play”. His masterful pentatonic ear mixed with good holiness teachings, shines on all tracks. After all, he was BORN TO PLAY.

“T Herd” loved to play pool and played in a few tournaments while he lived in Flint. He loved to cook and watch the Food Network Channel to acquire new recipes to add to his collection. We all know him for his infamous tacos! You had better get out of his way while he added cumin, pepper, garlic – can’t give it all away -- into a piping pot of ground turkey. He would challenge anyone to a cooking competition while talking junk. His hands held healing both in the kitchen and on the keys.

“T Herd” loved his family and would often initiate family food gatherings. He was such a generous person and would buy unique gifts for everyone, especially during Christmas time. He was definitely a momma’s boy and would spoil her with ornate gifts (he didn’t forget his dad!). He adored his nieces and nephew and would randomly give them monetary gifts and express his love for them. He was a great friend and impacted many all over the world with his infectious smile, genuine personality, sense of humor, giving heart and superior music that will never be forgotten!

Terrence was an amazing son, brother, and uncle. He leaves his legacy and fond memories to his wonderful parents, Willie and Gloria Herd; his loving sister, Denina (Dennis) Barlow; his loving brother, Vernell (De’Von) Herd; his nephew, Demeris Barlow; nieces, Dierra Barlow, Demiyah Barlow, A’Naia Herd, and A’Raia Herd; grandmother, Mary Lee Frazier; special friends: Laron, Eddie, Nakkia, Sophia, Chara, Stormi, Twila, Connie, and Sharrie; a play “grandson,” Braedon Lucas, goddaughters and godsons; and a host of aunts, cousins, uncles and other friends.

Terrence was predeceased by his grandparents, Anderson Heard, Josie Heard, and Clarence Frazier.
