Terry Tyrone Staples

Mr. Terry Tyrone Staples was born October 1, 1962 in Tupelo, Mississippi, the son of Andrew Frank Thomas and Willie Sue (Baskin) Laury. He gained his wings and returned to his heavenly Father on Friday, February 28, 2019. Age 56 years.

Terry was a graduate of Saginaw High School, “Class of 1980.” While still in college, he began working at Foot Locker in 1984 and was a manager there for ten years. He obtained his Bachelor’s in Business Administration in 1985 from Delaware State University. He later went back to school and received an Accounting Degree from Davenport University. He put both his degrees to work in 1999 when he became employed at the Detroit Diesel Corporation as an Accountant. He was employed there until 2012.

Terry was a man of purpose and vision. He was always thinking and always had a plan. It was no surprise when he became an entrepreneur and started investing in himself and his family. He became co-founder of the following businesses and organizations: The LaMarr Woodley Foundation, GreenWood Elite, M&T Staples Enterprises, Suit Up and In the Spirit Entertainment. He was also on the Board of Trustees at Welcome Missionary Baptist Church in Pontiac, Michigan as well as President of the Athletic Ministry.

A loving son, protective brother, amazing uncle, loyal friend, trusted business partner, motivating mentor and man of God is how he will be forever remembered. His legacy will live on through his nieces and nephews, and the work he’s done speaks for him.

Terry was preceded in death by his father, Andrew Thomas; stepfathers, Sammie Staples, Nathan Laury; brother, Jerry D. Laury; grandfather, Johnnie L. Baskin; grandmother, Magnolia Sampson.

He leaves to celebrate his life mother, Willie Sue Laury; sisters, Janice Staples, Norma Jean McLaurin, Jacqueline (Lorenzo) Laury-Jacocks, Saginaw, Michigan, Earlie Thomas, Minnie Harper, Tupelo, Mississippi, Kathleen Holman, Memphis, Tennessee, Bobbie Thomas, Chicago, Illinois; brothers, Malcolm Staples, Maurice Staples, Saginaw, Michigan, Rev. Claude (Betty) Thomas, Tupelo, Mississippi, Andrew Jr. (Dorothy) Thomas, Highland, Indiana, Mack Huddleston, Tupelo, Mississippi; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
