Tommy L. Thomas

May 30, 1943 — June 14, 2019

A Time to be Born: On May 30, 1943, the Lord plucked a bright star from the sky and placed it on this earth to be named Tommy Lee Thomas, Sr. and to be ruled and guided by his parents, Mahalia Gertrude Hudson-Thomas and Frank Thomas, Sr.

A Time to Change: He confessed his faith in Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Life Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Rufus Bradley, Sr.

A Time to Love: The King finally met his Queen. Tommy met Mary Ann Washington on April 23, 1985. They united in holy matrimony on October 3, 1988.

A Time to Provide: Mr. Thomas was employed over thirty years with the Cupp family in charter bus transportation including Saginaw Transit, Michigan Trailways, Delta Bus, Blue Lake Charters, MItchell Motor Coach and others. In 1986, he helped to organize a bus company, Roadway Charters. Mr. Thomas is a retiree of Saginaw Malleable Iron Foundry where he was affiliated with UAW Local 455.

A Time to Say Goodbye: On June 14, 2019 at his residence with his family by his side, Tommy’s soul was called and like a bird soaring in the sky, he took flight and flew away.

A Time to Mourn: He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of thirty-four years, Mary Ann Thomas; four children, TraVanda Thomas, Shatara (Kenneth) Thomas-Smithers, Tommy Jr. and Michael Thomas; six grandchildren, TaSharra Amos, DaTriana Thomas, DeQuan Lee, Imari Thomas, Maranda Thomas, Marquavis Smithers; one great-granddaughter that he patiently waited for, Danielle Aurora Johnson; sisters, Leona Easley, Ella (Charles) Thomas-Ollie; brother, Frank Jr. (Bonnie) Thomas; sisters-in-law, Bertha Rodgers, Sharon (EJ) Mack, Barbara Washington; brothers-in-law, David Thompson, Darren Washington; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, godsons, goddaughters, godbrothers, cousins and friends.

Tommy was predeceased by his parents, Frank Sr. and Mahalia Thomas; grandson, Kortnei Lee; brother, Willie Thomas; nephew, Steven Johnson; mother and father-in-law, Robert and Rosie Washington; godfather, Rev. Johnny Goodman; the best godbrother in the world, Bennie Goodman; brother-in-law, Willie Cook.

The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Alfred Harris, Jr., Dr. Mirza Hussein, Dr. Claudia Zacharek, 7 Main Covenant Harrison Staff, Next Stage Kidney Care, Fresenius Riverside, Luis Medina, Carrollton Senior Village friends, Blue Lakes Charter bus drivers, Louis Booker, Dr. Martin Blank, Vascular Health Clinic, Covenant VNA Hospice Care, GLBHC Janes Street, Ivan E. Phillips and the Staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel.

Family and friends may call at the family’s home to express their love and support.

It was Mr. Thomas' desire that family and friends gather in his honor for a picnic, fun and games immediately following the Memorial Service.
