Tracy Cox (Lansing)

Ms. Tracy Ann Cox was born on February 21, 1963 in Lansing, Michigan as the eldest daughter to Jeanette and James Cox, Sr. Tracy loved the Lord and accepted Him at an early age. She was a 1982 graduate of Eastern High School. Tracy was a proud mother of three daughters Letisha, Amber and Stacy Cox, as well as her bonus daughter Kazonna DeShazer. She met her lifetime partner, Wayne DeShazer on August 1, 1992. They shared a love and life together for thirty-two years. She worked for Custodial Services of Lansing, Michigan, where she held managerial duties and was always a joy to work with.

Tracy had a bubbly personality and a bright smile to match. She enjoyed fashion, jewelry, Betty Boop, music, dancing, spending time with her daughters, mother, her sweet grandchildren, family and making people laugh. Tracy always had the ability to make anyone feel comfortable and have a good time.

Our beloved Tracy gained her wings peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones on June 19, 2024, at McLaren Greater Lansing in Lansing, Michigan. 

Tracy’s style, dancing, love, personality, smile, and ability to command a room while remaining kind to others will be deeply missed and cherished. Her legacy will live on with us all. We love you, Tracy! 

She is survived by her loving daughters, Letisha Cox, Amber Cox, Stacy Cox, and Kazonna DeShazer; grandchildren, Tisaun Cox, Rizaun Coleman, Ja’Vier Diaz, Ja’Vion Townsend, Ka’Siye Cox and Zi’Aira Cox, all of Lansing, Michigan; mother, Jeanette Cox; siblings, Joyce (Joseph, Sr.) Cox-Martin, James Cox, Jr., Kim Cox, Brandy Ruiz, and Kimberly Ruiz; aunt, Habeha Adul Raheem, uncle, Essa Adul-Hakim; many nieces and nephews (To whom she is affectionately known as “TT”); loving cousins; other relatives including her significant other, Wayne DeShazer; and special friends, Shawn Cannon, Tashara Cannon and Shirley Henton.

Tracy was preceded in death by her father, James Cox, Sr.; sister, Michelle Cox; grandmother, Odessa Roper; and grandfather, Ernest Roper.
