Vernshea "Vern" Grayland Wallace

February 11, 1962 — November 11, 2022

Mr. Vernshea “Vern” Grayland Wallace, age 60, formerly of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away on Friday, November 11, 2022, at Covenant HealthCare-Cooper. He was born on February 11, 1962, in Birmingham, Alabama.

Vern gave his life to Christ at an early age at 23rd Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. He was a graduate of P.D. Jackson-Olin High School in Birmingham, Class of 1980. Vern spent the majority of his adult life working in masonry, but was truly a “jack of all trades.” On any given day, you could count on Vern looking forward to the next great meal, sneaking sweet snacks, listening to 1960s-70s R&B/Soul music while cooking in the kitchen, and watching old western movies. He loved going on a good road trip, getting dressed up and looking sharp for church service on Sundays, and spending time with his family. Vern’s infectious laugh could make everyone around him laugh, even if they didn’t know what was funny.

He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Nieshia (Eric) Thomas of Saginaw, Michigan, and Tyechia Harrison of Birmingham, Alabama; one son, Vernshea (Terilynn) Harrison, Saginaw, Michigan; grandchildren, Madisyn, Kaylin, Taylor, Makenzie, Sydney, all of Saginaw, Michigan, Tyreontaye, Tyreyonna, Tyquayvious, Quavoyne, Quamarijuan, and Quamonyae, all of Birmingham, Alabama; siblings, Bobby Wallace, Tonja (Amanda) Wallace, and Jacqueline Wright; special aunt, Annie (Kevin) Bryant; a host of other aunts, uncles, cousins; and special friends, including Kevin, Tank, and Tim.

Vern was predeceased by his parents, Joyce Ann Smith and Robert Lee Wallace; brother, Kenneth Wallace; grandparents, Josh Gilder, Sr., Eloise Gilder, Julion Ellison, and Gertha Mae Ellison; and the love of his life, Constance Bender Wallace.

The family wishes to thank everyone for their love and support during their time of bereavement. Knowing that one day, everyone will cross the same threshold, is comforting to know that paths with Vern will align again.
