Virgel Gibbs "Skip" (Lansing)

Mr. Virgel Gibbs “Skip” passed away Monday, May 23, 2022, at Sparrow Health Systems Hospital in Lansing, Michigan. Age 72 years. He was born May 14, 1950, to parents, George Washington and Kattie May Gibbs, in Collins, Mississippi. Skip was one of 14 children born to the couple.

Skip resided in Lansing, Michigan, with his wife, Shirley Ann Gibbs. This union has been blessed to endure over 40 years together, after they met in the diner that Shirley worked at.

He enjoyed watching his westerns, NFL football and pro Baseball. Music was a large part of his life; Skip loved the blues and body & soul.

His beloved niece, Temekia Gibbs, always referred to him as a “cool cat’ due to his tendency to dress to the nines.

Skip leaves to cherish his memory wife, Shirley Ann Gibbs of Lansing, Michigan; sisters, Fannie, Lessie; and Gaytha; brothers, George Robert “Bobbie”, and    Victor; special niece, Temekia Gibbs, Sharon, and many more; nephews Lemuel Booth, Tony Gibbs, and many more; cousins, Diane Hawkins, Michelle Hawkins,    Marsha Hawkins, Kameshia Hawkins, and Bobby Hawkins; sister-in-laws, Blanche, Hilda Jean, and Hilda Mae; and brothers-in-law, Lorenzo, Benny, and “Rent”.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kattie Mae and George Washington Gibbs; sisters, Marilyn, Elizabeth “Liz”, and Katie; brothers, George William,   Joseph “Lucky”, John “Nicky”, Nathan, and Grady; father and mother-in-law, L.J. and   Willie Mae Rankins.
