Celebrating The Life and Homegoing of our dear mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother, Virgie Mae Edwards, who was born in Edwards, Mississippi on January 28, 1934 to William Jasper and Wilna Perkins. Virgie Mae Edwards age 77 years old went home to be with the Lord on August 6, 2011 after a short illness.
Mrs. Edwards came to Saginaw with her family in 1959. She was a faithful member of Truevine Missionary Baptist Church and served in the gospel choir for 52 years. She worked as a Food Prep Attendant at many hotels and restaurants. She retired from Meijer in 1994. As an Eastern Star, she was a faithful member. She won Queen of St. Marys Lodge 4 years in a row.
She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Ellena Gaskew, Wilma AlLateef (Melvin Brown), Dorthera Gaskew, two sons, Albert Gaskew Jr., Robert Lee (Ann) Frazier, three step-children, Terry Lee (Octavius) Frazier, Mary Ann (Lawrence) Carter, Geraldine Frazier; grandchildren, Nathaniel Chisolm Jr., Leroy Chisolm, Vincent Gaskew, Rawleigh Madlock Jr., Antwyan Burt, Arsenio Dukes, Christopher Frazier, Jeremy Frazier, Mark Brown, Michael Crespo, Felicia Gaskew, Darnesha Gaskew, Kenney, Tannal Gaskew, Takiyah Gaskew, Shalena Chisolm-McKinney, Pauline Jones; thirty-six great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; father, William Jasper; two sisters, Johnetta (Robert) Sanders, Mary Loyd Deal, brothers, Vernon (Dorothy) Jasper, Rayford Flagg, Harvey Perkins, Robert J. Richardson; ten nieces; fourteen nephews; godchildren, Charles (Dale) Mitchner, Elaine (Dennis) Brooks, Edna Davis, Eric Robinson; fifteen sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; many other relatives and friends, including special relatives, Elizabeth Lilly, Lille Mae (Charles) Cooper, Pauline (Rufus) Bussey, Rosie Burnett, Jonnie B (Joe) Torey; special friends, entire Mitchell family, Cora Lewis, Easter Brown, Elizabeth Taylor, Arthur Johnson. The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Harpal Singh, St. Marys of Michigan 5th floor NPC, Covenant Rehab 4th floor, VNA Hospice, Devica, RN; Barb, LPN; Trish, social worker; and nurses aides, Hazel, Mary, Bonnie, Carman and Christy.
Virgie was preceded in death by her daughter, Yvonne Denise Frazier; granddaughter, Tunita Chevell Gaskew; mother, Wilna Richardson; step-father, Richard Richardson; step-mother, Ora Jasper; brothers, Ezell Richardson and William Ray Richardson.
