Virginia "Ginny" Branklyn (Lansing)

August 11, 1945 — October 25, 2020

Ms. Virginia McCullum Branklyn, affectionately called “Ginny” passed away Sunday, October 25, 2020, at McLaren Greater Lansing in Lansing, Michigan. Age 75 years. She was born August 11, 1945, in Ferriday, Louisiana to Picola Wesley & Wash Early.

Virginia accepted Christ at a very young age and was baptized by Reverend James Jordan at Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Ferriday, Louisiana. She taught vacation bible school and Sunday school at Mount Sinai Baptist Church and was a faithful member until moving to Pontiac, Michigan with her brothers where she attended Nursing school. She later moved to Lansing, Michigan, and joined Union Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Reverend Dr. Melvin T. Jones. She served in ministry until her Heavenly Father called her home.

She attended Lansing Community College and received an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice. Virginia was a Public Safety Officer in Lansing School District for 30 plus years. She loved helping children have a brighter future. She also enjoyed coaching young girls at Dwight Rich Middle School.

Virginia lived a very healthy lifestyle. She enjoyed exercising and playing tennis. She attended bible study and did mission work. She was the president of the choir at Union Missionary Baptist Church.

Virginia leaves to cherish the joy of her memories one daughter Janice Bordelon of Lake Charles, Louisiana; two sons, Edward D. Fulton of Lansing, Michigan, Wesley R. Davis of Lake Charles, Louisiana; twelve grandchildren; one sister, Beatrice Thomas of Lake Charles, Louisiana; two sisters-in-law, Mary Margaret Wesley, Juanita Chism; and a special cousin, Shelby (Betty) Wilson, and many other relatives and friends which includes her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; eight sisters, Mary Williams, Thelma Bowie, Rosie Lee Thomas, Addie Price, Blanche Wesley, Mamie Webb, Henrietta Watts, Martha Givens; six brothers, Russell Wesley, James Wesley, Johnny Wesley, Herbert Wesley, Isiah Wade, and Leon Chism.
