God saw the road was getting rough, the hills were hard to climb, He gently closed those loving eyes and whispered, Peace be thine. Walter L. Askew was born on March 24, 1943 in Tallassee, Alabama to Woodrow Askew and Carrie Hall-Lawson.
He was a member of Messiah Missionary Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army and worked for various construction sites in the Tri-City area. He enjoyed gathering with family and friends, listening to music, fishing and watching old westerns. He was spontaneous, comical and outspoken.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Victoria Askew; three daughters, Pam (Tracy) Parks of Commerce, MI, Brenda Cameron of Saginaw, MI, Teresa Askew-Washington of Cleveland, OH; one son, Jermaine (Tanyan) Askew of Lansing, MI; four step-children, Melissa McDaniel, Eli and Demetrius Brown, Terry Askew all of Saginaw, MI; nine grandchildren, Tameka (Robert) Cameron, Harvey, Ronovan and Darius Cameron, McEzelvias Corbin III, Michaela and MacKenzie Washington, Flynn and Aaron Parks and Jermain Askew Jr.; one step- grandson, Demarco Murphy, Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Labre Cameron and Taira Corbin; four sisters, Mary Smith, Helen (Ralph) Griggs, Sarah Canty and Peggy (JB) Prince-Davis; two brothers, Thomas (Sally) Askew, Ronnie (Debra) Askew; two aunts, Delia Smith-Nichols, Catherine Hall, many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including a special nephew, Steve D. Canty and a special friend, Catherine (Cat) Goodman.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Henry Lawson; stepson, Anthony Brown.
