Walter K. Richardson (Lansing)

September 19, 1949 — July 28, 2021

“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace.” Ephesians 1:7

Mr. Walter Kinard Richardson (affectionately known as ‘Walt”) ascended to this earthly realm on September 19, 1949, and departed, to be in the presence of the Lord, on Wednesday, July 28th, 2021., at the age of 71 years. Walter was born in Chicago, Illinois to John and Anna Lucille Richardson.

At the tender age of 5 years, his mother, Anna Lucille, moved Walt and his brother, Gregory from Chicago to the quiet town of Cassopolis, Michigan, located in the lower peninsula of Michigan but years later Walter established his permanent residency in Lansing, Michigan.

Walter received Christ, as his Lord and Savior, in 1985 at Living Word Outreach Church under the pastoral leadership of Reverend Charles McGill. After the closing of Living Word Outreach Church, Walter and his wife, of several years, Carol Dabney-Richardson joined Abundant Grace Faith Church under the pastoral leadership of Pastor Louis E. Dixon, Sr. Up until the time of his illness, Walter was an active and faithful; member, serving as a Trustee and an Usher as well as a role model to new and younger members who also wanted to serve in the same capacity.

After receiving his Associate's Degree from Davenport College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Walt attended Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. His education, experience, and expertise lead him to a position to become the Bank of America - Branch Manager for 10 years and later, for the State of Michigan (Department of Treasury) as a supervisor, before his retirement after 25 years of service.

Walter LOVED music of all kinds BUT after he accepted the Lord Jesus as his personal Savior, he asked Him to replace his love for worldly music with Christian music…and He did. Walter became a guru of Christian music from every genre! His collection was so vast that it literally covered his basement walls and if you needed a recommendation, for the latest or the best Christian tunes Walt was your man!

Music wasn’t Walt’s only love! Walter was also a lover of basketball and football, but basketball was his favorite! ‘Walt’s height and competitive spirit earned him a basketball scholarship while in high school and he continued to compete (and earn a degree) at Davenport College. After college Walter continued to play leisurely; at church and work, with whoever was brave enough to take on his 6’4” stature… and he let everyone know that he was competitive and EXPECTED to win!

He leaves to celebrate his life and cherish many memories: his wife of 32 years, Carol Dabney-Richardson; son, Walter Bernard Turner of Atlanta, Georgia; brother, Gregory Richardson, Sr. of Lansing, Michigan; grand-daughters, Kierra Jones of East Lansing, Michigan, Akilah Turner of Atlanta, Georgia; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many more friends including close friend, Frank Thomason.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Lucille Richardson.
