Mr. Wardell James Brown departed this life on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Bickford Assisted Living of Saginaw Township. Age 76 years. He was born on July 18, 1940 in Columbus, Mississippi to Eddie Brown and Josephine Cleo Anderson Brown.
Wardell accepted Christ at an early age. He was a resident of Ypsilanti, Michigan. Upon graduating high school, Wardell was drafted into the United States Army, serving in Vietnam from 1963 to 1965. During his military service, Wardell received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal (First Award) and Sharpshooter (Rifle M-14). He was awarded an Honorable Discharge in September, 1965. Wardell also received an appreciation tribute from InteliCare Hospice for his service as a United States Army Medic. He earned a nursing degree and became a nurse recruiter for the University of Michigan. Wardell retired from the State of Michigan . He enjoyed eating, especially sweets, and he was a debonair dresser.
He leaves to cherish loving memories two daughters and one son, Tonya Ruff, Teresa Yrlas and Lucien Todman; three sisters, Hellen (Thomas) Smith, Las Vegas, Nevada, Betty (James) Porter, Saginaw, Michigan, and Mary (Arthur) Edwards, Riverside, California; two brothers, James (Bradetta) Brown, Rochester Hills, Michigan, and Robert Brown, Englewood, New Jersey; many nieces, nephews and cousins; a very special neighbor, Danny Urbina; special friends, Robert Henley and Dan Scott.
Wardell was preceded in death by his son, Kevin DeWayne Brown; parents, Eddie and Josephine Brown; grandparents, Ed and Parthenia Brown, Quill and Hattie Anderson, and two sisters, Hattie Crosby and Vera Casey.
