Wayne Hawkins (Lansing)

Mr. Wayne Hawkins passed away peacefully at his residence on Thursday, February 21, 2019 in Lansing, Michigan. Age 82 years. He was born December 10, 1936 to Russell Oscar and Alberta Ludwig Hawkins in Lansing, Michigan.

Wayne lived a relatively quiet life. He attended school thru the Lansing School District. He retired from Michigan State University after 32 years of service in the custodial department.

Wayne would say...

I'm an ordinary man, nothin' special, nothin' grand,
I've had to work for everything I own.
Well I never asked for a lot, I was happy with what I got,
Enough to keep my family and my home.

If you and I should chance to meet,
I guess you wouldn't care;
I'm sure you'd pass me in the street
As if I wasn't there;
You'd never look me in the face,
My modest mug to scan,
Because I'm just a commonplace
And Ordinary Man.

But then, it may be, you are too
A guy of every day,
Who does the job he's told to do
And takes the wife his pay;
Who makes a home and kids his care,
And works with pick or pen. . . .
Why, Pal, I guess we're just a pair
Of Ordinary Men.

We plug away and make no fuss,
Our feats are never crowned;
And yet it's common coves like us
Who make the world go round.
And as we steer a steady course
By God's predestined plan,
Hats off to that almighty Force:
THE ORDINARY MAN.

Wayne leaves to cherish his memory his son, Michael Hawkins; one grandson, Scott Cunningham; one sister, Joann (Hawkins) Depeal; one brother, Robert Hawkins; three nieces, Tina Lindsey, Sherry Hawkins, Amy Smith; four nephews, Matt Depeal, Scean Depeal, Jeff Hawkins, Richard Lindsey; one great-niece, Reba Hawkins; three great-nephews, Tryston Depeal, Trent Depeal, Rob Smith; daughter-in-law, Sandra L. Hawkins and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Clarisa Lynn; brother, Russell Hawkins; sister, Sandra (Hawkins) Lindsey.
