Whilmon Austin, Jr. (Lansing)

Mr. Whilmon Austin Jr. affectionately known as “Willie” went home to be with his Heavenly Father on February 1, 2024. At the age of 67 years old. He was born June 30, 1956, in Flint, Michigan, the beloved son of Whilmon and Carlean Austin. He was their second child and only son.

In his young adult years, Whilmon worked at General Motors as a Heavy Machinery Operator for 27 years. During that time, Whilmon relocated to Lansing, MI, created life-long friendships, and became a husband and father. In the 90’s, Whilmon committed his life to Jesus Christ and became a minister of the Gospel, active in his local church. Whilmon spent many years as an Elder at the Lansing Church of God in Christ, as well as working as a chaplain at the county jail and leading ministry and mentorship

programs at the recovery and integrated treatment center, House of Commons, in Mason, MI. Willie enjoyed fishing, playing pool, watching cowboy movies, or just sitting and barbecuing in the yard listening to gospel music. He was a fun loving man who just loved his peace.

Whilmon is survived by his wife of 7 years, Kathy Austin; three daughters, Jamecia (Carl Gordon), Glacoyia (Lauren) Austin-Young, and Tawana Austin; two sons, Jacob Austin, and Michael Austin; stepchildren, Ashley McGee, Amber (Lavail) Mixon, Alexis Jackson, Aquayveon Thompson, A’Lyric Jackson, and A.K.Treon Jackson; many grandchildren & great grandchildren; two sisters, Michelle Austin and Angela Austin, who he had a special love for; and two nieces, Catrise and Alicia.

Mr. Austin was preceded in death by his son, Jyles Sheldon and parents, Whilmon and Carlean Austin.
